The Town and MD of Bonnyville are encouraging its resident to be prepared for an emergency, in the event something goes awry and you are unexpectedly left looking after yourself, your neighbours and your family.
All across the country, the federal government, along with its provincial and municipal counterparts, are stressing the importance of being prepared to be without water, power, food and even emergency services for up to 72 hours.
It can certainly be a little alarming to think a disaster could strike at any moment, without warning, leaving residents to take care of themselves over the short term, while authorities assess the situation for a long-term recovery.
However, being prepared for such an event, with the right mix of supplies and planning, is the most effective way to quell those concerns.
It is not a complex process to put together an emergency kit and plan, and those actions could save you, your family or someone else in the event of a catastrophe.
And, if in the end, we're all prepared to survive 72 hours and disaster doesn't strike, I think we can all agree…that's a good thing.
