Hurrah for Stelmach departure

To the Editor:

Just caught the news on the radio and I’m so ecstatic about it that I had to tell someone. I heard Premier Ed Stelmach say at the legislature today that after careful consideration, he would, in due course, be resigning his post as leader of the PC Party of Alberta without completing two full terms as premier.

‘He finally did it!’ I thought. He finally decided to tell Mr. Kearl Jet Fuel, the head puppeteer, and ‘Jetty’ to those in the inner circle, that this puppet was not prepared to dance to the tunes of Grande Puba Stone any longer. I seemed to hear the new tune, Quecumque Vera, that must have been playing in his head at the time he made the announcement. I caught some of the lyrics as follows:

As long as the sun shines,

The rivers flow and the grass grows,

Our treaties with Albertans are sacred…

Boom, boom, boom…

Steady Eddie did it again. Only this time, along with winning over more hearts, he also managed to change Alberta’s direction. No longer will the strings of this puppet become entangled with that of the next marionette. I’m immensely glad for Ed, for mustering enough courage to shed the corporate cloak. It is a truly remarkable achievement. It’s been said that to overcome your enemies is to be strong but that to overcome yourself is to be all powerful. Well, there can be no question now what this ex-farmer is made of. It’ll be interesting to see who’ll wear the apron from this time forward.

PS: If you need help interpreting this article, I’m sure Jetty’s friend, Brian Stonehedge, known as ‘Rocky’ to his friends, can speak to you about it. You’ll always find him at the legislature.
