It’s just not the place for it.
There, I said it.
I’m talking about wifi outdoors, specifically at a recreation park.

It doesn’t matter where in the world it is. In my opinion, it’s no place for internet.
The whole point of getting outdoors is spending time together in the fresh air, not tapping away at a post on Facebook or scrolling through Instagram.
I can understand having your phone on-hand in case of emergencies, or to even snap a couple of photos, but do they really need to go up right away?
Is it so important that you can’t wait until you get home?
I just wonder what kind of habits we’re teaching our children.
To me, it says that it doesn’t matter what you’re doing so long as your outside.
I always laugh when people joke about bringing their computers or gaming systems outdoors so they can get fresh air. In most cases, it’s a joke, but adding wifi to an outdoor recreation park seems to be along those lines.
I get it. It’s a new world, technology is utilized everywhere you go, and so on. But, I strongly believe there’s a time and a place for cellphone use, and it’s definitely not when you’re at the playground with your kids, watching a baseball game, or enjoying an afternoon at a family barbecue.
While you’re busy on your phone, tablet, laptop, or portable gaming device, you’re missing what’s unfolding right in front of you.
Like your child’s first home run, first goal, or riding a bike without training wheels.
Sure, people have access to the internet through data on their phones, but that’s an expensive choice they’re making. When you give them access to unlimited free wifi, you’re going to find a lot of people hunched over flipping through social media.
It’s just an unnecessary cost.
If you want to spend money, put it elsewhere. Wifi belongs inside. Whether you’re outdoors or not.
