RE: “Survey shows residents on board with outdoor recreation park” in the April 23 edition of the Bonnyville Nouvelle.

Dear Editor,

Is anyone else baffled by the recent article about how residents are supporting a local outdoor recreation park?

It quotes that 400 people answered the survey and a whopping 50 per cent are in favour of this protect.

Do the math please people.

There is a reported 11,600 people in the MD of Bonnyville, and out of that, 200 people want this project to move forward.

I’m not saying that this project is wrong, and it probably has some very good advantages for the community, but I don’t think that 200 responses should suffice to take on such a big project that will potentially increase taxes for thousands of MD residents.

I know that some people in the MD already are paying hefty taxes to the tune of $4,000 to $5,000 a year.

I’m hoping that people will take this opportunity to reach out to their MD representatives and voice their opinions or concerns so everyone is better represented in this big decision for the Bonnyville area. That way, in the event this project goes ahead, the community feels like this was a good decision that they were a part of.
