While I don’t make New Year’s resolutions, I have made a book pledge that I keep track of through my personal blog.
I stumbled onto an app a few years back that keeps track of the books you read throughout the year, and makes book recommendations based on that list.
I’ve aimed high with my previous pledges, hoping to read 50 for the first few years, and haven’t finished more than 30 since I started tracking.
With the move and all of the changes I experienced toward the end of 2018, I was only able to get through 18 last year.

It’s not my lowest count so far, but it’s not my best. I got into a slump reading a couple of books, but I’m determined to finish them up early on into this year.
I have a lot of books that I want to read, and the list keeps getting longer even though I haven’t added any new ones to my read list.
As I mentioned, I don’t make New Years resolutions. I normally forget them before the end of January, and go back to my old habits.
If I want to make actual changes in my life, I decide to do them and that’s it. Resolutions never had any substance to me. I seem made a commitment to make myself happy.
The pledge I make every year to read a certain number or books, or more, is the closest I’ve come for a while.
The only other one I have is one I decided on while in university, when I realized my mental health wasn’t great and I made an effort to make myself happy.
Reading has been a passion of mine for years, and I’ve lived hundreds of lives through the eyes of fictional characters that have become more like friends. They were there for me when I didn’t have anywhere else to turn, and reminded me to never give up.
I always encourage people to read, and to find ways to enjoy the past time. One of my good friends recently turned to audio books after struggling with reading since elementary school, and went from reading one book a year to 22 in 2018.
Reading is a great way to de-stress, and take some time for yourself. Curling up with a book is one my favourite things to do, and I’m always eager to hear suggestions from other people. I share my own on my blog, or with anyone that asks my opinion.
Happy New Year, and I hope you accomplish everything you have set your mind to.
