Reader wants land bills repealed

Dear Editor,

The comprehensive coverage in the St. Paul Journal March 15 issue of the March 7 public meeting held in St. Paul is commended. The matters addressed in the new legislation resulting from Bills 19, 36 and 50 are life altering for Albertans and must be repealed.

One news article and the editorial both mention that MLA Ray Danyluk was the first MLA to attend a Keith Wilson public meeting, his 27th presentation. An excellent debate resulted, but in which the MLA could not justify the government’s legislation. Should our MLA be congratulated for attending the meeting or are the Progressive Conservative politicians now only paying attention to the issues raised because of concern for their political lives?

Now for the first time in over a decade in the Lac La Biche – St. Paul constituency, as in much of the province, there is a credible alternative party to the Progressive Conservatives. The Wildrose Alliance Party in this constituency has selected an excellent candidate, Shayne Saskiw. The Wildrose platform is based on the philosophy that citizens are to direct the government rather than the central authority telling citizens what is good for them. Wildrose promises that when elected to govern Alberta it will repeal the legislation restricting property rights and fully restore and respect property rights. Indications are that in 2012 voters in Alberta will get to voice their views in a provincial election.

In a democracy citizens have the right and the responsibility to understand the issues, to express their views and to vote according to their conscience.

Carl Christensen,

St. Lina
