Rural properties not a dumping ground

I write this letter out of frustration, realizing that it will probably only be read by the 95 per cent of the population who are responsible and respecting of the property of others. To you, my remarks are not directed.

I write this letter out of frustration, realizing that it will probably only be read by the 95 per cent of the population who are responsible and respecting of the property of others. To you, my remarks are not directed. I hope that a few of the other five per cent self – serving inconsiderate individuals will read this and consider their actions.

There is an increasing problem people in the surrounding rural area are having to deal with, and that problem is the ever increasing aggravation of people cleaning their yards and dumping the garbage on and adjacent to our property. It seems some people want to have a nice, neat yard but have no problem polluting and dumping their trash wherever they think they can get away with it.

This is an ongoing issue and the number of incidences increases every year. This past spring, a person from Elk Point hauled several loads of dirt, woods, chips, clippings, branches and debris and dumped them on our land. We know the yard it came from and the person admitted dumping it. I asked to have it cleaned up, but it didn’t happen and I had to take a loader and haul several loads with a bucket and grapple with it myself.

This last few weeks, we have had people dump dirt, wood chips and bark etc. right on an approach into our field and we have to clean it up. Somebody else dumped their potted plants complete with plastic garbage bags, tin foil plates, dirt and other things on the edge of our field down a side road where they wouldn’t be seen.

I have postponed writing this letter for three years, hoping the problem would go away. I realize the dump isn’t open everyday, but that does not give license to use the ditches, approaches and the property of other people to dispose of your mess. Rural landowners take pride in their property and try to keep the ditches and fields clean. To you who think it is your prerogative to inconsiderately dispose of your rubbish on and adjacent to our property, I say STOP IT or the next time we find evidence of where it came from, you will find a heap of junk on your land.
