The temperature outside might not exactly say ‘spring is here!' But according to the orbit and tilt of the Earth and the resulting spring equinox, the season before summer has surely arrived and unless we're in for a huge surprise, the snow will soon vanish and the land beneath us might eventually thaw out.

Though, we're typically a hearty bunch here in northeastern Alberta, enjoying or at least accepting much of what winter has to bring; after months of three-metre-deep frost and fifty-below wind chills, it might be safe to say we're ready for the arrival of spring.

Soon the birds will be back singing away, the bears will wake from their long slumber, the plants will shake off any remaining frost, and humans will once again socialize for extended periods outdoors, without needing layers upon layers of clothes.

Spring and summer, just like winter and fall, have become an inevitability here on the edged of the Boreal. But just like the arrival of fall signals winter is on its way in, spring has become one the most reliable signs we have that a refreshing, rejuvenating summer is waiting for us just around the corner.

Welcome warm weather, we have been waiting.
