To the Editor:
This is in regards to the letter entitled, ‘Get on with real business,’ in the Dec. 4 edition of the St. Paul Journal.
All excellent school teachers (and parents) know that the first step to eliminate misbehaviours is for the student / child to recognize the errors of his /her ways. Then steps must be made or taught to improve those behaviours, for the good of all.
That is precisely what the opposition parties in Alberta are now attempting to do. For many years, the Progressive Conservative government has been misbehaving. We know the long list of misdemeanors that have been made public only because of the persistence, especially of the Official Opposition Party, Wildrose.
And for those who have paid attention to the proceedings in the Alberta Legislative Assembly in recent weeks, you will note opposition parties, led by Wildrose, made just over 100 amendments that would improve legislation. Of these, all were unanimously voted down by the PC government. We should be proud of our MLA, Shayne Saskiw, who has spearheaded a number of these measures.
Once the student, that is, the Redford government, performs in ways respectful of Albertans, the Official Opposition will be able to fully concentrate on pushing the government to be truly transparent and to implement legislation, practices and budgets supportive of the needs of Albertans.
