Thanking dad on Father's Day

For those of you who already knew, please don't take this the wrong way. This is simply a friendly reminder from the Bonnyville Nouvelle that this Sunday is Father's Day.

For those of you who already knew, please don't take this the wrong way. This is simply a friendly reminder from the Bonnyville Nouvelle that this Sunday is Father's Day.

There's no question Father's Day lacks the marketing power of a Christmas Day, Mother's Day or the always-profitable Valentine's Day, so on behalf of fathers everywhere and to all the forgetful sons and daughters out there, take some time away from work or play and remind your father about how special he really is on this one special day.

Dads are often the modest type – the kind of guy that doesn't boast about his fatherly abilities. And for those of us lucky enough to have had a caring father figure in our life, we know those abilities are wide-ranging and far-reaching. From teaching their kids to survive in the wilderness to understanding those same kids will make mistakes along the way, dads do it all, asking for little in return and receiving almost no pay.

So take this chance to show your appreciation to the dads out there. Take this chance to thank your father for all he's done and all he will do for you. But don't limit yourself to just the third Sunday in June to let him know you care.

Surprise thank yous and caring smiles go a long way any day of the year.
