Often when we’re looking for examples of women empowerment, we look to figures who have made ground-breaking, award-winning strides in their fields – and for good reason. However, we sometimes forget to just look at those around us; our mothers, sisters, friends, and co-workers.
While they may never be spotted on the cover of a magazine or have their achievements recorded in the history books, it’s these women that are transforming society behind the scenes on a daily basis.
Friday, March 8 marked International Women’s Day. A day to celebrate the women in your life for all they do, regardless of whether they’re career-driven, a domestic goddess, or a combination of the two.
Here at the Nouvelle, we currently have an all-female staff.
As a boss, I’m incredibly proud of the work these ladies put in each and every day. As a woman, I can’t say enough about the strength, perseverance, compassion, and determination that I see from them both in the office and their personal lives.
Being the newspaper, we work to share the achievements and tell the life stories of others in the community. Rarely, do we have the chance to celebrate the successes of our own staff. So, I only felt it was fitting, with International Women’s Day, to give a shout out to the women right here at the Nouvelle office.
These four ladies I have the pleasure of working with, Breanna, Nicole, Meagan, and Robynne, are some of the strongest women I have ever met. Being a tight-knit office, we share quite a bit about our personal lives; struggles and triumphs, moments of happiness and sorrow, and what we’re going through day-to-day.
More often than not, when they tell me what’s going on in their lives, the first thought that comes to mind is ‘I don’t know how you do it.’ Yet, somehow, they find the strength and courage to do whatever needs to be done.
Even while tackling their own problems, they’re always shouldering the burdens of others, always willing and ready to listen and help in any way they can.
A common phrase that floats around during International Women’s Day is ‘empowered women empower women.’ What does that mean? Well, it looks different for everyone.
Every woman is a leader and an influencer in her own right. Whether it’s girls across the world that are looking up to her, or just her family and friends.
Take a minute to thank a woman in your life you couldn’t live without. Between working, cleaning the house, groceries, laundry, and chauffeuring, it’s easy to overlook the contributions the everyday woman makes.
I’m lucky enough to be surrounded by strong women every day. Without these ladies, and the countless others I have had the opportunity to meet throughout my life, I wouldn’t be where I am today.
So, to all the women out there, keep your chin up. You never know who you’re inspiring.
