Time of year for reflection

Thanksgiving has come and gone, but not the reason for the holiday. The day is a chance to reflect on all the things one is thankful for. Of course it is also a day of great food.

Thanksgiving has come and gone, but not the reason for the holiday. The day is a chance to reflect on all the things one is thankful for. Of course it is also a day of great food. Perhaps you are even snacking on some leftover turkey as you read this Nouvelle right now. Even though the holiday is over, we thought we'd share some of what we're thankful for.

Firstly, we're thankful that the drought is over and that farmers got more moisture this year than in the previous two years.

Second, we're thankful for the great individuals that get featured in our pages for their accomplishments, and for the people who tip the newsroom off when someone might be too shy or humble to brag about themselves otherwise. We're thankful to live and work in such a great community, where churches and community organizations are always there to help out those in need, and continue to support the community in untold and numerous ways.

We're thankful to have such great sports teams and athletes in the community. They all do their part in providing us with the excitement and entertainment sports fans desire. We're especially thankful for the Pontiacs' nine-game winning streak. With an early deadline on Friday due to the long weekend, the outcome of this weekend's game is not yet known, but we are confident that the team performed to the best of its ability and will continue to make Bonnyville proud this season.

We appreciate that Canada protects freedom of the press – and that the Base nearby helps to protect those freedoms. We're also thankful for the great team here at the office, which pulls together every week despite hair-splitting deadlines, to package, produce, and get the new issue out to you every week. We're extra thankful for our great readers and advertisers who make community news a great business to be in, and for readers who provide insightful comments and story ideas.
