Sometimes we undervalue the time we give of ourselves to spend with others.
During the festive season, the residents of Sunnyside Manor (where my mother resides) have been treated countless times to entertainment that is top notch. Whether you were the weekly pianist who sang the traditional songs of yesteryear, the dancers, the choirs, the carolers, the instrumentalists, the crafters, or the students who shared cookies with the residents, you brought smiles, toe-taping, much conversation, and warmed their hearts immensely.
On one occasion upon entering the facility, a blissful sound of singing, angelic voices resonated throughout the building, further into the dining hall were seated most of the residents with song sheets in hand, led by a beautiful lady on the guitar, counting the starting note.
For a moment, tears welled into my eyes, to realize when some of these folks last sang Christmas carols, and how gratifying they felt now. To the youth from our schools, your interaction with these residents is most appreciative. You sat, you talked, and you even returned your visit with a photograph that will be cherished until next Christmas.
Always remember what fine individuals you are to do these gestures of compassion to those who are confined to residency.
Thank you with all my heart.
