Lakeland Ride For Dad 2025 a Success

The Lakeland Ride For Dad event returned in 2025 with great success, helping the motorcycle community promote the fight against prostate cancer and bringing awareness to men's health issues.

Event co-organizer Jan Stewart is happy to report that riders from near and far came together to support the mission. Participants travelled from as far away as Fort McMurray, Edmonton, Tofield, Provost, and Lloydminster to take part. Though the weather was a bit cool, spirits were high and plenty of fun was had by all.

Local authorities, including the Cold Lake RCMP, played a role by assisting with traffic management, alongside safety vest-clad rider volunteers who marshaled intersections under police direction, traffic control was, as Stewart praises, “phenomenal.” Their efforts allowed the convoy of riders to move safely through the towns and cities on the route.

Money for prostate cancer research was raised by the ride through pledges, sponsorships, and merchandise sales. Three participants – Leonard Axani, James Minnik, and Peter Lazauski – collectively raised over $10,000, showcasing the collective power of dedicated individuals in achieving a common goal.

While monetary contributions are important, the event’s mission goes above and beyond. Ride for Dad prioritizes creating awareness about men’s health in general, encouraging men to take proactive steps in safeguarding their physical and mental well-being.

Lakeland Ride for Dad organizers say a very big thank you to the sponsors, volunteers, and community partners. Cornerstone Co-op continued their tradition of generosity by providing a complimentary lunch for all participants, an act that was deeply appreciated and enjoyed by everyone. Adding to the festive atmosphere, two live bands performed after dinner, with their fantastic entertainment ensuring the evening ended on a lively note. From start to finish, the event was a perfect balance of celebration and purpose.

Stewart expresses his gratitude for the collective efforts behind the event, saying, “We can’t have the ride without sponsorship, the Ride for Dad executive team, and our amazing volunteers. Thank you to everyone!”

The spirit of Ride for Dad extends beyond a single event. Throughout the summer, the Lakeland chapter has a full schedule of community engagements, including appearances at events like the Bonnyville chili cook-off and the Ardmore Mud Bogs. Keep an eye out as this team goes around with merchandise and information in support of men’s health. If you spot them in your community, be sure to pause and say hi, and check out what they have to offer.

Stewart adds, “October is Prostate Cancer Awareness Month, and Cold Lake Family and Community Support Services (FCSS) have arranged for the Man Van to visit Cold Lake. This mobile clinic, known for its role in early detection, offers free and confidential PSA (Prostate-Specific Antigen) blood tests for eligible men. Last year, they were fully booked, which is great to see. Screening can save lives, and we encourage everyone to take advantage of this opportunity.”

If you can’t make it to Cold Lake, check out the Man Van schedule to find a location near you.

Plans are already in motion for Lakeland Ride For Dad 2026. The team is committed to making next year’s ride even bigger and better. Updates and details will be shared continuously, so participants and supporters are encouraged to keep an eye on the official Lakeland Ride for Dad website and social media pages for announcements.
