COLD LAKE - In celebration of Pink Shirt Day on Feb. 28 the FCSS Cold Lake Bully Free Committee organized a button design contest ahead of the date, inviting the community to showcase their creativity and promote anti-bullying messages.

The response to the contest was overwhelming, with over 350 entries pouring in from various educational institutions and members of the public.

The winning designs, selected by the Cold Lake Bully Free Committee, will now be transformed into buttons to spread awareness of the importance of being a bully-free community, according to the City of Cold Lake.

The contest saw participation from students across Cold Lake, including Cold Lake Outreach School, Nelson Heights School, Cold Lake Junior High School, John N.A. Janvier, and Art Smith Aviation Academy. Beyond the school settings, members of the public also contributed their unique perspectives on promoting a safe and inclusive environment.

According to the City of Cold Lake, “the Cold Lake Bully Free Committee faced the challenging task of choosing the winning designs.”

The announcement revealed the top selections from both school and public entries. The five classrooms responsible for the winning school entries will be rewarded with an ice cream party and the public winner will be awarded an ice cream party to share with friends and family.

“The Bully Free Committee, the FCSS and City Hall, along with all its departments encourages everyone in our community - businesses and residents alike, to wear pink to show support, and to raise awareness for anti-bullying programs available in our community,” said the City of Cold Lake, leading up to this year's Pink Shirt Day.

Names of the winners for the button contest were not released.
