Pre-registration for this afternoon's Spooktacular family fright event at the Bold Center didn't scare away steady crowds for the COVID-friendly community event. Organizers of the pre-Halloween party say that while the event looked different than previous years — a smaller venue with socially distanced booths and a set amount of visitors scheduled throughout the two-and-a-half hour event — the reactions were positive.

Taking on a Harry Potter theme, this year's Spooktacular featured a booth for magic wands, a sorting ceremony to determine which house the guests belonged to, a fortune teller, along with tables of potions and spells. Dixie's Photography was also on hand to capture the magic with family portraits.

Halloween falls on Saturday this year. Alberta Health regulations have not restricted outdoor trick-or-treat activities as of the printing deadline of the Lakeland This Week. Across the region, municipalities have set their own guidelines for the spooky night, with most communities opting to continue the door-to-door traditions — with pandemic precautions in mind.
