Flood victims weren't the only people helped at the Incident Command Post set up inside Lac La Biche's Bold Center during the recent State of Local Emergency.
Lac La Biche RCMP report that the passenger of a vehicle that crashed into a ditch near the Bold Center in the early morning hours of June 8 — the same time officials opened up the facility as a registration centre for flooding evacuees — walked up to command post personnel and said he'd been in a crash.
RCMP say the man had been the focus of some earlier complaint calls to the RCMP and municipal peace officers about a "suspicious person" walking near Beaver Hill Road. Lac La Biche RCMP Staff Sgt Jerry Nutbrown said the man had left the vehicle — which had crashed into the ditch at the intersection of 91 Avenue and Highway 881 — to find help. The female driver of the vehicle remained at the scene.
Nutbrown said the patrols for the suspicious person led officers to the crashed vehicle.
"As members were attending the scene, a male attended the Bold Center complaining of a back injury," Nutbrown said.
The man was transported to W. J. Cadzow Hospital with minor injuries.
At the scene of the crash, Nutbrown says it appears that rain and darkness may have caused the driver to miss a stop sign at the end of 91 Avenue, sending the car into the opposite ditch.
The driver was also taken to hospital for minor injuries. She and the passenger were later released. The RCMP say there are no charges expected at this time.
