Over the weekend, the Voyageurs lost their final games of the season. On Friday, the team dropped a 7-1 decision to the Augustana Vikings in Camrose. Saturday’s rematch between the two teams at the Bold Centre saw the Vikings win 5-2.

The 2023-2024 season has been a tough one for Portage College Voyageurs men’s hockey team. The Voyageurs finished in last place in their seven-team Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) division and are the only team not to clinch a playoff spot.

Just under a minute into the first period of the Voyageurs’ Friday 7-1 away game, Xavier Halterman, assisted by Blake Astorino and Carter Yarish, got the puck past Vikings’ goaltender Daniel Moody in would be the team’s only goal of the contest.

The Voyageurs returned to Lac La Biche the following day to meet the Vikings on home ice in a closer 5-2 game. The team stayed off the scoreboard until the second period, when Mason Beck, assisted by Carter Yarish and Payton McDonald-Corea, and Joshua Crooks, with the assistance of Nick Gidney and Shaye Sommerfeld, scored one goal each.
