BONNYVILLE – A unexpected physician shortage is causing a temporary closure of the Bonnyville Heatlh Centre’s emergency department overnight on May 28 and 29.

The staffing disruptions will cause emergency department services to be closed starting Sunday, May 28, at 5 p.m. until Monday at 7 a.m.

The emergency department will be closed again on Monday May 29, starting at 5 p.m. continuing until Tuesday morning at 7 a.m.

As always, patients are asked to call 911 if they have a medical emergency. EMS calls will be rerouted accordingly, states Covenant Health.

Residents are reminded to call Health Link at 811 for health-related questions. Health Link is available 24/7 for non-emergency inquiries.

Other service areas will remain open at Bonnyville Health Centre despite disruptions to the emergency department.

“We acknowledge that this temporary service reduction will cause some concern for local residents, and we ask that you are patient with our staff during this challenging time,” says Shelly Franklin, Site Administrator, Bonnyville Health Centre.

“We would like to thank the community for their patience and apologize for any inconvenience this may cause as we navigate this extended staffing shortage.”
