Bonnyville Friendship Centre wins annual Chili Cook-Off

BONNYVILLE – The Bonnyville and District Chamber of Commerce hosted another annual Chili Cook-Off where local businesses and organizations had the chance to go head-to-head in a bid to win the coveted chili cook-off trophy.

This year, The Bonnyville Friendship Centre won with their homegrown chili.

The event took place on June 6 and took over a section of 50th Street between Brosseau's grocery store and TD bank, filling the streets with chili vendors, music, and crowds eager to sample all the food.

A portion of the proceeds raised during the event went toward the Bonnyville and District SPCA.

“We would like to thank the Chamber of Commerce for putting on such a great, well- attended event that helps another non-profit in our community. It was fantastic,” said Janet Gobert, executive director of the Bonnyville Friendship Centre.

Gobert also thanked Charlotte Farms Inc, River Valley Meats and all of the local farmers and gardeners who donated the ingredients to the friendship centre so they could make their winning homegrown chili.

“When our team decided to participate in the Chamber of Commerce Chili Cook-Off, we all came together to determine the perfect ingredients for our chili. As with any great recipe, our secret ingredient remains just that - a secret,” said Gobert.

“We wanted to show the strength of our team while having fun and engaging with the community. It was a fantastic opportunity to step out of our usual programming and connect with everyone in a new and exciting way.”
