Bonnyville municipalities host public works open houses

BONNYVILLE – In the spirit of National Public Works Week, both the Town of Bonnyville and the MD of Bonnyville hosted Public Works open houses, offering residents an opportunity to see the equipment used to service the community - and meet the hard-working staff.

Kids and adults got to climb into the cabs and honk the horns of machines such as graters, snow ploughs, hydrovacs, and skid steers, and ask their operators questions.

The MD of Bonnyville hosted their event at their transportation and utilities shop on May 24, and had a barbecue and kids' corner, as well as a sand pile with toy buckets and shovels for the kids to play with.

Gina Levitsky said her grandsons have always been interested in trucks, trains, and machines, and the public works open houses gives them the chance to get up close with the MD’s heavy equipment.

“They’re always pointing them out when they see them on the road, so it’s nice that they get to come and climb inside,” said Levitsky.

The Town of Bonnyville hosted their event outside the C2 on May 23, and attendees were given the opportunity to see the new hydrovac and street sweeper the Town of Bonnyville has purchased.

Both have been part of a naming contest, and on Monday, the names of the equipment were announced. The street sweeper has been named Sweepy Hallow, and the Hydro Vac has been named The Wild Sucker.
