On Dec. 2, Bonnyville RCMP members were dispatched to a motor vehicle collision on Hwy. 660 and Rge Rd. 480.

“A vehicle was traveling west on Hwy. 660,” detailed Bonnyville RCMP Sgt. Kim Hillier. “As the vehicle was preparing to turn south, it came to a stop to yield to oncoming traffic when a second vehicle rear-ended the vehicle preparing to turn.”

A report of a swerving vehicle notified the local RCMP of someone who may have been driving under the influence on Dec. 1.

The member located the suspect vehicle and completed a traffic stop, where the driver displayed signs of having consumed alcohol and failed a roadside screening test.

“In line with Bill C-21, the driver was issued an immediate 90-day license suspension and a 30-day vehicle seizure,” Hillier noted. “The driver was released on the scene to the registered owner of the vehicle.”

Faulty lights and drugs

While on patrol on Dec. 3, a local officer observed a truck traveling westbound on Hwy. 28 near Township Rd. 612A.

After noticing a burnt-out headline on the driver’s side and that the passenger’s light was flickering, the member completed a traffic stop and found the driver was wanted on a warrant from Cold Lake.

A search led to police locating a total of 53 grams of suspected methamphetamine, three grams of suspected fentanyl, and other drug paraphernalia.

When a complainant reported his vehicle had been broken into overnight while it was parked by Duclos School, he also noted the thief may have been injured, as he saw blood on the vehicle console, and reported a knife that didn't belong to the complainant was left in the vehicle.
