Bonnyville RCMP Report: Impaired driver arrested after offering drinks on the go

BONNYVILLE – Bonnyville RCMP were alerted about an impaired driver after they tried to do a little bar tending on the go.

A local woman called police on July 2 about two unknown in a Chrysler 300 asking her if she wanted a drink. The men then drove off and struck another vehicle.

Officers attended and located the vehicle and arrested the driver. The 22-year-old Goodfish Lake man provided a breath sample that was double the legal limit.

He was charged with operating a motor vehicle while impaired and operation a motor vehicle while impaired over 80.

Pursuit leads to arrest

Bonnyville RCMP members attempt to conduct a traffic stop on a vehicle suspected to be involved in selling drugs on Road 2 in Kehewin on June 27.

After the vehicle didn't stop, a pursuit ensued and a spike strip was deployed. Police Dog Services was also called in to assist in locating the driver.

A 17-year-old Edmonton male was arrested and released by a Justice of the Peace to appear in court on Aug. 4. He faces multiple charges, including flight from a peace officer, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, operating a motor vehicle without holding a subsisting operator’s license, driving an uninsured vehicle on a highway, and failing to comply with a release order condition.

Suspended driver reported by off duty officer

On June 29, an off duty officer reported a man driving who was known to be suspended.

Members located the vehicle on Kehewin, and further investigation confirmed that the suspended male had been driving the vehicle.

The vehicle was towed, seized for 30 days, and the 41-year-old male from Kehewin was charged with operating while prohibited and given Traffic Safety Act (TSA) tickets.

The male was released on an undertaking and is set to appear in court on Aug. 28.

Thefts keep local detachment busy

Attempted thefts and stolen vehicle reports kept Bonnyville RCMP busy this past week.

A complainant reported on June 26 that his 2004 Ford F350 was stolen earlier in the day. The vehicle was later recovered in Whitecourt.

An attempted theft was reported on June 28 when the owner heard his car alarm and went outside to hear a vehicle driving away quickly. The owner found his driver’s side door popped out and damaged.

A member attended, took photos, and took a witness statement. Patrols were also conducted in the Sportsman Trailer Park, where the incident occurred.

The following day, Bonnyville RCMP received a report from a woman who said her husband's truck and gooseneck trailer with another truck on it was stolen from their house on 43 Ave.

Members conducted extensive patrols and sent the information to neighbouring detachments, however, the beige 2005 Chevy Silverado Dually and trailer haven’t been located.

A silver 2005 Chevy Silverado truck was stolen from 47 St. in Bonnyville on June 30. Members conducted patrols but were unable to locate the vehicle that night.

Later that day, there was a report of a white 2004 GMC Sierra stolen from 50 Ave. in Fort Kent. The truck hasn't been recovered yet.

Tips from public help located stolen vehicle

On July 1 a resident called police to report a Chevrolet that he had seen posted on social media as stolen traveling on Hwy. 660 and Hwy. 41.

While members fanned out to search, multiple other reports came in of sightings throughout the evening that led the RCMP to the Bonnyville hospital.

Complaints and security alerted police that the stolen vehicle was parked at the backside of the hospital and a man had run through the facility.

The vehicle was located and secured. The investigation into the identity of the suspect is ongoing.

Truck stolen during business break-in

A business owner reported on July 1 that his building had been broken into overnight and his truck had been stolen.

The business is located on 52 Ave. in the industrial area in Bonnyville.

The blue Ford F150 was later recovered in St. Paul.

Any information on the break and enter can be reported to the local RCMP.

Validation tags stolen

On June 27, the Bonnyville RCMP received a report that a registration tag was stolen from a truck, which the owner believes happened while he was parked at the Wholesale Club in town.

The public is asked to ensure that their tags are firmly affixed and have not been tampered with.

Abandoned vehicle found to be stolen

Police received a report about an abandoned vehicle, which turned out to be stolen from Smoky Lake.

According to Bonnyville Sgt. Kim Hillier, a report came in regarding a vehicle in the area of Hwy. 28 and Twp. Rd. 604 on June 27.

“A member located the vehicle, a four-door Chevy Malibu, which had been reported as stolen out of Smoky Lake on June 22, 2020,” Hillier said in a statement. “Smoky Lake is investigating the theft, and anyone with any information is asked to contact their local RCMP.”

RCMP investigating indecent acts at local store

Bonnyville RCMP was notified by a local store employee that an unknown male was committing an indecent act inside the store on June 28.

When asked to leave, the male left without hesitation.

Police patrolled the idea, however, the male wasn’t located. Officers are reviewing store security footage to try and identify him.
