BONNYVILLE – Bonnyville RCMP received a report from a woman stating she’d found an ‘unusual’ item in town.

“She attended the detachment and turned over a dated certificate of death for a male that had died in 1989,” noted Bonnyville Sgt. Kim Hillier.

“If you believe this item may be in relation to a family member, we ask that you contact the Bonnyville RCMP and provide details on the person whose death certificate you are missing in order to have the item returned to you.”

The local detachment can be reached at 780-343-7200.

Stolen credit card found

Someone called the local RCMP to report that an unknown person had used his credit card at 7-Eleven and A&W in Bonnyville.

Members began a detailed investigation, which ultimately led them to the Centre Suites Inn.

“A Feeney warrant was obtained and 41-year-old Clayton Cardinal of Kehewin was arrested without issue,” explained Hillier.

Cardinal was charged with three counts of theft/forgery and misuse of a credit card. He was also found to have outstanding warrants and was held for a judicial interim release hearing.

He was later released by a justice of the peace on a cash bail with a court date of Feb. 23 in Bonnyville.

Intoxicated male jumps in front of vehicles on highway

“Multiple complainants at several times reported a male jumping in front of vehicles on Hwy. 41 near Hwy. 657,” Hillier said.

Members attended the area immediately on Feb. 2 and were able to locate a suspect after multiple patrols. A 34-year-old male from Kehewin was arrested and appeared to be quite intoxicated, according to RCMP.

“During the arrest, the suspect also caused damage to the police vehicle that he was placed in,” Hillier noted.

He was lodged until sober and then released on an undertaking to appear in Bonnyville court on April 6.

Citizen reports impaired driver

After receiving a tip from a concerned citizen about a possible impaired driver, a traffic stop in the downtown area of town saw a driver blow a ‘caution’ on the roadside screening test.

According to Hillier, a caution gives the member reasonable grounds to believe the driver was operating a motor vehicle with a blood alcohol concentration that was equal to or exceeded the legal limit.

“As this was the second occurrence for the driver, his vehicle was seized, he received a fine of $600, and his license was suspended immediately.”

Intoxicated female causes disturbances all over town

The Bonnyville RCMP received multiple calls for assistance on Feb. 2 about an intoxicated female attempting to gain entry into vehicles and various buildings downtown.

The member was unable to locate the female when they circulated the area, however, a tip was later received regarding a woman attempting to break into mailboxes.

Officers located and arrested Kelly Jacko, 23, of Cold Lake, who was also subject to outstanding warrants. She was held for a judicial interim hearing due to numerous calls for assistance involving her on this date and was later released by a justice of the peace on no cash promise to pay.

Jacko’s next court date is set for March 2 in Bonnyville.

Suspicious vehicle stuck in a ditch in Birch Grove

After receiving a call on Jan. 29 of a suspicious vehicle stuck in a ditch in Birch Grove, a member attended and saw the driver attempting to dislodge the vehicle and drive it out of the ditch.

Upon investigation, the officer noted the driver was impaired and failed a roadside test.

The driver was subject to a provincial sanction of a $1,000 fine, a 30-day seizure, and immediate license suspension.

Stolen truck reported

“A complainant reported his 2012 black Ford F-150 was stolen on 43rd Ave. in Bonnyville after he started the truck to let it warm up. The owner came outside after 10 minutes and saw the truck was gone, keys were left in the vehicle. The vehicle is still outstanding.”
