BONNYVILLE - A state of local emergency remains in effect in the MD of Bonnyille, although a localize evacuation order has been downgraded to an evacuation alert for some residents in the MD of Bonnyville located near a wildfire.

Just before 3 p.m. on April 23, the MD of Bonnyville released information updating the situation.

"This comes after careful consideration of the fire and current fire conditions," reads the information from the MD of Bonnyville.

The fire, which is referred to as LIR001, is located near Range Road 432, south of Highway 28. It has not yet crossed into the MD of Bonnyville.

"Officials will continue to monitor the fire and weather conditions," according to the municipality. "Residents in the area are asked to be vigilant and be on standby for possible evacuation."

No threat to Town of Bonnyville

During the April 23 Town of Bonnyville council meeting, Coun. Neil Langridge asked regional fire chief with Bonnyville Regional Fire Authority (BRFA) Dan Heney, who was in attendance, if the Town should be concerned about the state of local emergency.

Heney explained that the state of local emergency was put in place due to the wildfire on Cold Lake First Nations, but prevailing winds were pushing the fire away from the MD of Bonnyville.

Heney stated there was "no emergent" presence toward the Town of Bonnyville, "at this time."
