In an effort to reduce the number of human-caused wildfires, the Bonnyville Regional Fire Authority (BRFA) had enacted a fire ban for the MD of Bonnyville, Summer Village of Bonnyville Beach, Summer Village of Pelican Narrows and Village of Glendon including banning off-highway vehicles for recreational use on all public lands.

Also prohibited are open fires including in campgrounds, backcountry and random camping areas, along with backyard fire pits and burn barrels on both public and private land. This ban includes charcoal briquettes, pellet smokers, turkey fryers, tiki torches and fireworks.

"We expect this fire advisory to reduce the number of human-caused wildfires in Alberta, while allowing Albertans to enjoy outdoor activities as much as possible," the BRFA notes on the fire ban announcement.

Still allowed are the following:

  • Portable propane fire pits that are CSA approved or UL certified.
  • Gas or propane stoves and barbecues that are CSA approved or UL certified and are designed for cooking or heating.
  • Catalytic or infrared-style heaters.
  • Fires contained in industrial facilities or on industrial sites as approved by a forest officer.
