Bonnyville resident Christopher Daniel McCallum has been charged with second degree murder following the death of a 34-year-old female on Sunday, according to an RCMP press release.

Bonnyville resident Christopher Daniel McCallum has been charged with second degree murder following the death of a 34-year-old female on Sunday, according to an RCMP press release.

McCullum remains in custody and is to appear today, Dec. 6, in court. At the request of the family, the victim's identity has not been released.

Her death was the result of injuries suffered during a physical assault and classified as a homicide by the medical examiner following an autopsy that was conducted yesterday, RCMP said.

According to an earlier press release, McCallum called 911 on Sunday, Dec. 4 at 2:30 p.m., reporting the victim was unconscious and non-responsive, and EMS and RCMP determined she was deceased upon arriving at the scene. McCallum was arrested at that time, and later charged with second degree murder.

Preliminary investigation indicated there had been a physical altercation between the two individuals in the early morning hours of Dec. 4, and that alcohol had been a factor.
