BONNYVILLE – The Co-op in Bonnyville held this year’s member appreciation barbecue on July 4. The free event had burgers and hot dogs on the grill, as well as ice cream and cold drinks. It was organized to show appreciation for both local Co-op members and community customers.

Amber Hughes, president of the Co-op board, said the event also featured live music, great conversation, and a chance for people to reconnect with neighbours and friends. A highlight of the day was the distribution of the 2024 Member Equity cheques.

“This year, more than 3,200 local members received profit-sharing cheques . . . In 2024, we returned over $1.5 million back to our members. It was great to see members picking up their equity cheques with a smile . . . It reflects the strong management of our Co-op team across all our businesses,” said Hughes.

Hughes emphasized that events like this remind everyone that Co-op is more than a business - it’s a community-owned organization rooted in local values.

“These kinds of events are about gratitude and connection,” said Hughes. “They give us a chance to thank our members for supporting the Co-op while also strengthening the bonds we share as a local community."

Hughes said the feedback from attendees was “overwhelmingly positive,” with over 1,000 people showing up to enjoy the free barbecue.

“We welcome everyone to join the Co-op . . . It’s just a one-time investment of $10 for a lifetime membership - and a chance to be part of something that gives back to our community.”
