Selling to an undercover officer landed one "street-level dealer" behind bars.
According to St. Paul chief Crown prosecutor Jordan Kerr, Carrie Lockwood was identified as a possible drug trafficker in Bonnyville in February 2018, and as a result, officers were investigating.
On Feb. 28, 2018, an undercover RCMP member made initial contact with Lockwood at a Bonnyville bar, where she offered to sell the him cocaine. He purchased .87-grams for $100.
The next day, on March 1, the undercover member contacted the phone number Lockwood had provided the night before, requesting to once again purchase drugs.
They met, and the officer bought .93-grams for $100.
Federal Crown prosecutor Vic Findlater was seeking two years in custody, after Lockwood pled guilty to trafficking cocaine during her court appearance in Bonnyville on March 19.
In an unrelated incident, Lockwood was charged with theft over $5,000 after stealing from her place of work. Lockwood pled guilty to this offence.
Between April 23 and June 6, 2018, Lockwood worked at a Bonnyville gas bar where she would ring in items being purchased using cash, and then "return them," once the customer had left. Once the item was voided from the system, she would pocket the money.
Over the course of several months, Lockwood had stolen over $17,700 from the gas bar.
Kerr noted that dollar figure doesn't include the cost of the items that were taken without paying by unknowing customers.
The provincial Crown was seeking five months in custody in relation to these charges.
Honourable Judge Clifton Purvis agreed to the joint submission, and sentenced Lockwood to two years in jail for trafficking and five months for the theft conviction, for a total of 880 days.
As of her sentencing, Lockwood had 660 left to serve.
