Covenant Health, the organization that runs the Bonnyville Health Centre, has earned top marks from an Accreditation Canada survey team.

While surveyors visited seven Covenant Health facilities, each of its 15 facilities able to be accredited submitted evidence for the areas evaluated.

"The surveyors themselves said it was one of the best visits they'd ever had," said Jon Popowich, Covenant Health's vice president of quality.

Covenant Health scored 98.6 per cent and met 766 of the 777 criteria. It received a perfect score in the Reprocessing and Sterilization of Reusable Medical Devices category, with four unmet criteria in four others. Surveyors found five unmet criteria under the Hospice, Palliative and End of Life Services category.

Accreditation Canada awarded Covenant Health certification with condition, meaning it must submit evidence of action taken to improve the unmet criteria over the next four months. These include implementing a falls prevention strategy, evaluation of compliance with hand hygiene practices, and developing a policy for paediatric medications, according to a Covenant Health report.

Popowich said he was very pleased with the results.

"We're very proud of all the hard work that the staff have put in on this."
