After 27-years, the Glendon Agricultural Society has turned to the public for help and advice on how to grow their annual event.

On Wednesday, Jan. 31, at the Glendon RCMP Hall, the ag society will be hosting a meeting where they will reach out to public for input on the viability of the Glendon Derby.

“We're going to show some of the previous volunteer hours, the outcomes, the number of drivers we have, and our gate numbers, just to see if there are more people who want to get involved in the derby,” expressed Stacey Sandmeyer, president of the Glendon Agricultural Society.

By letting other ideas flood in, they're hoping to revitalize the community event.

“It's always good to step back, shake it up, and see if anybody has new ideas, because as we get going and do it year after year, you don't want it to become stagnant. You want it to change with the times,” Sandmeyer said. “That's basically what we're showing and what we want to express when we have a meeting like this.”

Every year, the ag society hosts the Glendon Derby and Mudbogs as a fundraiser, with proceeds supporting various community organizations.

Sandmeyer said the derby has a way of bringing the community together

“We don't want to stop the event, we just want to see what we can do to make it better,” she continued.

During the meeting, the ag society will break-down their numbers over the last couple of years.

“We want to show the numbers. We're not shy about disclosing what we're making, where it's going, and what our goal is. We're an ag society. We're a community group… We just try to keep on building and keep our programs running,” expressed Sandmeyer.

Ultimately, what they're looking for is residents and organizations to come together and help build the future of the Glendon Derby and Mudbogs, whether it's through volunteer work, pitching ideas, or showing support.

Sandmeyer said, “We're a grassroots group. We want the local people to get involved; it's for the good of the community. Any input and desire for people to get involved, that's what we want.”
