BONNYVILLE – Bonnyville Station 5 firefighters were called to extinguish an outdoor fire in a private yard on Sept. 8.

Fire crews responded to the fire that was located on the west end of the Town of Bonnyville around 11:45 a.m.

While the fire was not burning out-of-control, it had been started in a non-permitted backyard fire pit, confirmed Regional Deputy Fire Chief Alicia Krawchuk.

The reason that the initial call was made to the fire department is unknown, but due to the fact that a fire was burning in a non-permitted fire pit, the fire department was required to extinguish it.

“The public is reminded that the Town of Bonnyville has bylaws outlining backyard fire pit regulations, and all fire pits in town must have a permit,” stated Krawchuk.

Town permits for fire pits can be obtained at the Bonnyville Regional Fire Authority’s administration office.
