Fun Run fundraiser supports Bonnyville Cancer Clinic

BONNYVILLE – The Jessie Lake trail was filled with runners, walkers, dogs, and strollers, as community members showed their support at the Bonnyville Cancer Clinic 5km Fun Run, June 1.

The Fun Run started at the Bonnyville Splash Park, and event organizer Kelly Haygarth shared how blown away she was by the turnout and support. With the addition of a $10,000 donation made by the non-profit 86 Cancer, who acted as a DJ for the event, the event raised $53,395.

“It was amazing. Even with the wind, I’d say around 300 people came . . . It just shows how passionate people are about the cause,” said Haygarth.

Haygarth spoke about how the event gave those affected by cancer an opportunity to support a cause.

“Thinkwerx donated bibs that people could wear that said, ‘I run for . . .,’ and they could write the name of the person they were running for . . . Everyone loved the event. They were just happy to be able to participate and recognize their loved ones – to show up and support one another,” said Haygarth.

She spoke of the support she received when organizing the annual event and shared her gratitude for the people and local businesses that made the event possible.

“We got some great feedback about our swag bags as well. People really loved the socks, and everyone always says the T-shirts are really comfortable, and they were donated by CNRL . . . It was a really positive event, and people had fun,” said Haygarth.

She said organizers intend to host another event next year.
