BONNYVILLE – The Iron Horse Trail staging area in Bonnyville is getting some signage.

The Riverland Recreational Trail Society sent a letter to Town of Bonnyville council requesting a $1,500 donation to assist in paying for a staging area sign and its installation, which had a total price tag of roughly $5,350.

According to Coun. Ray Prevost, the sign was being purchased locally from Sign Solutions and will be put at the staging area located just north of the Bonnyville RCMP detachment.

“We spent a lot of money on that piece of property already,” he noted. “We moved all the clay dirt that we dug up from the (Bonnylodge) and levelled it all off. Of course, we have property just to the east of it as well. What they’re asking for is signs indicating where the staging area is.”

Renee Stoyles, general manager of corporate services for the town, said the new addition "will be identical to the signage already there."

Marvin Bjornstad, president of the Riverland Recreational Trail Society, said in a letter to the municipality that they’ve also worked alongside the Bonnyville Snowdusters to add some "initial amenities" to the Bonnyville staging area.

“To date, we were able to get a loading ramp delivered to the site and we received a quote from Sign Solutions for building and installing the staging area sign.”

The sign is anticipated to be installed early this year in order to be there in time for snowmobile season.
