Over the years, the city has continued to build on Kinosoo Beach, including a splash park, zip line, and multi-use courts.

Kinosoo Beach has made Alberta's list of top projects for 2018.

Earlier this week, the City of Cold Lake was recognized as Alberta Public Works Association's Project of the Year in the $1 million to $5 million category.

“The amount of planning, dedication, and hard work that has gone into Kinosoo Beach is outstanding,” said Mayor Craig Copeland. “And the crowd of people at the beach all summer shows how important this is to our community – it’s a focal point for major celebrations and a family gathering spot every day of the summer. It’s one of Canada’s best beaches and the word is getting out.”

So far, two phases of the Kinosoo Beach Master Plan have been completed including the construction of a multi-purpose court, promenade, transformed and improved storm water drainage, a splash park, grandstand, extensive landscaping, and new trails and lighting.

Accepting the award on the city's behalf was General Manager of Infrastructure Services Azam Khan and Transportation Services Manager George Urlacher. They attended the American Public Works Association’s Alberta Chapter conference, where they also received an award for the city’s National Public Works Week events.

This was Cold Lake's third consecutive year accepting this award.

“National Public Works Week has become an important celebration in the community,” said Copeland. “It highlights the important work that our public works staff members do throughout the year.  Without their dedication, the services we enjoy every day would not be possible, and larger projects like Kinosoo Beach would not even be on the table.”
