After a busy and rewarding year, MLA for Bonnyville – Cold Lake Genia Leskiw is looking forward to another year of the same in 2012.

She spent 2011 being very busy, “attending many, many events across the constituency, from one end to the other,” as well as fulfilling her obligations on various provincial committees, Leskiw explained.

Of all she accomplished throughout the year. However, she said, “Probably the biggest success in 2011 would have been getting approval for widening Highway 55 and getting approval and funds for both Highway 55 and the roundabout. That would probably be a big success.”

She also counts the aboriginal showcase she organized and attended in Cold Lake as one of her greatest successes.

Leskiw explained the resolution of the Cold Lake Air Weapons range tax assessment issue was her biggest challenge in 2011.

“Not everybody agreed with the way it finally materialized,” she said, adding, “But I consider that also a success, because it meant that a good portion of my constituency was being helped.”

This coming year promises to be another busy and challenging one for Leskiw, who is looking forward to making progress on the seniors' housing issue, as well as the promised provincial election.

“Seniors' housing is definitely the number one concern,” she said. “I know people were not happy that the announcement was not made when they thought it was going to be made, but it will happen. It will happen, it just takes time.”
