LLOYDMINSTER – The mayor of the City of Lloydminster, Gerald Aalbers, was spotted wearing a Bonnyville Jr. A Pontiacs Jersey earlier in the week following a wager between City council and the Town of Bonnyville council.
The Junior A hockey team from the two municipalities, the Lloydminster Bobcats and the Bonnyville Pontiacs, were facing off in the first round of the Alberta Junior Hockey League playoffs which came to a head on March 19.
The mayor of the losing team agreed to wear the jersey of their municipality’s rival team.
Playing at the Centennial Civic Centre Arena in Lloydminster, the Pontiacs took the series in Game 6.
Being a good sport, Mayor Aalbers donned a Pontiacs jersey, as per the deal.
The Bonnyville Pontiacs are now competing against the Whitecourt Wolverines in round two of the playoffs.
The Pontiacs are hoping to close out the 3-1 series tonight as they take to the ice tonight at the Scott Safety Centre.
