Mail thief on the loose

Bonnyville RCMP are on the hunt for information about a suspect stealing mail from Canada Post superboxes in town.

Overnight on Dec. 29, two mailboxes were targeted in Bonnyville. The superbox on 36 St., was subject to a theft, along with the mailbox on 42 St./Lakeshore Dr.

The RCMP are asking anyone with any information to call the detachment at 780-343-7200, or Crime Stoppers.

Child calls 911

A Bonnyville child called 911 claiming his father had assaulted him.

The complaint came in on Dec. 29 at about 1:40 p.m.

A 39-year-old Bonnyville male has been charge with assault in relation to the incident.

New Year's assault

Police responded to a call on the early morning of Jan. 1 at a Kehewin residence.

The caller claimed they had witnessed a man beating up his girlfriend.

Officers attended and charged the 21-year-old Kehewin male with assault.

He was also charged with one count of unauthorized possession of a weapon.

Driving infraction leads officers to cocaine and meth

A Cold Lake man was charged with possession of cocaine and methamphetamine after officers spotted him committing a traffic infraction.

The New Year didn't start off on a good note for the 37-year-old, who was pulled over for running a stop sign in town on New Year's Eve around 4 p.m.

The man was arrested and charged with six counts of failing to comply with conditions, possession of both drugs, and failing to stop at a stop sign.

He will appear in court on Jan. 10.

La Corey mail also targeted

On Jan. 2, RCMP received a call about theft from the mailboxes in La Corey.

“This was at the actual post office in the Willow Prairie Hall parking lot,” explained Sgt. Sarah Parke of the Bonnyville RCMP.

Mail was stolen from this location.

Officers have no indication the mailbox thefts are related.

Local man charged after found in stolen vehicle

The Bonnyville RCMP checked off one file for the St. Paul detachment after recovering a stolen vehicle from that area.

On Jan. 2, at about 8 p.m., Bonnyville RCMP were conducting proactive patrols on 50 St. After running the licence plate of a vehicle, officers discovered it had been reported stolen in St. Paul.

Officers pulled the vehicle over, and charged the Bonnyville driver with possession of stolen property, driving while unauthorized, and not having registration or insurance.

False alarms continue to be an issue

The Bonnyville RCMP respond to false alarm calls for both business and residential properties throughout Bonnyville, the MD, and Glendon.

“We would like businesses to take accountability and to hold their alarm companies accountable and try to reduce the amount of false alarms that are coming in,” explained Parke. “It utilizes our resources that could be spent elsewhere or may be needed elsewhere.”
