Main street has reopened after the section of the road from 49th to 50th Street was closed since Monday due to the expansion of the MD of Bonnyville office. Workers tore up the road to attach water, sewer and storm sewer lines from the future building's location to the lines under the street.

The project will cost nearly $5 million and take about 15-16 months to complete, weather pending, explained the MD of Bonnyville's CAO, Ryan Poole.

"It's possible it might go a little bit over or a little under."

He said the current building is too small and the new three-storey building will be built beside the current one and connected.

Poole said the new building was designed to accommodate current staff with room for a few years of expansion.

"Definitely when you're building a building, you don't want to build it just for now and then in three years from now you go 'uh oh,' or five years from now," he explained.
