Understanding Canada’s criminal justice system can be complicated.

Christian Lee Bubar will spend 75 days in custody after a traffic stop that led RCMP to multiple firearms.

On Tuesday, June 19, Bubar appeared in the Bonnyville Provincial Courthouse where he pled guilty to unauthorized possession of a weapon and possession of a prohibited weapon.

Described as a man who is well known in the court system, Bubar was sentenced to 75 days after a traffic stop earlier this month.

On June 7, at around 5:30 p.m., RCMP stopped a vehicle with a shattered windshield and an non-matching license plate just north of Kehewin.

When Bubar couldn’t produce identification for the officers and was subsequently arrested, they began investigating the cab of his truck. Inside, they discovered two 22-calibre rifles, along with cellphones, drug paraphernalia, marijuana, a knife, and tools.

Bubar, 32, told the court “I really have to get my life together.”

Honourable Judge Lawrence Nemirsky sentenced the soon-to-be father to 75 days in custody. As of his sentencing, Bubar had already served 20 days.
