Man charged after spitting and kicking local officers

Bonnyville RCMP have charged a Alexis Nakota Sioux First Nation male with two counts of assaulting a peace officer. A concerned resident called 911 about a male passed out on Hwy. 28 near Fort Kent on May 2.

Bonnyville RCMP have charged a Alexis Nakota Sioux First Nation male with two counts of assaulting a peace officer.


A concerned resident called 911 about a male passed out on Hwy. 28 near Fort Kent on                 May 2. The intoxicated 25-year-old was located and arrested by responding officers.


On the way back to the detachment, the male started kicking the back doors of the cruiser, causing damage.


After pulling over to stop the man from doing further damage, he began kicking the officers and spitting on them. He was taken back to cells and released when sober on a promise to appear for his July 3 court date.


Unwanted guest


On April 29, a local homeowner called RCMP about a man sleeping in her garage.


The caller told RCMP he was unwelcome, and wanted him removed.


The 42-year-old Bonnyville man was later located and arrested for being unlawfully in a dwelling house, and will appear in court on May 22.


He was released on conditions not to attend the 49 Ave. residence or to contact the homeowner.


RCMP receive call about break and enter in progress


At about 10:30 p.m. on  April 29, Bonnyville RCMP responded to a call from a resident about a break and enter in progress.


Someone had activated the alarm in her garage, and when she went to investigate, she found an Indigenous woman in her 50s inside of the garage.


The woman claimed to be searching for her daughter, before jumping on her bike and taking off down the alleyway behind the 46 Ave. home.


RCMP were unable to locate the woman and are asking the public for any information regarding the incident to call the detachment at 780-343-7200 or Crime Stoppers.


Man wanted after fleeing police


On May 6, a little after midnight, RCMP pulled over a vehicle on 51 Ave.


According to Sgt. Sarah Parke, the driver showed signs of impairement, and an impaired driving investigation ensued.


The driver refused to provide a roadside sample to the officer, and fled from RCMP.


The 29-year-old Calgary male now has warrants out for his arrest in relation to failing to provide a sample on a roadside screening device, flight from police, and breaching an undertaking.
