The Bonnyville hospital called RCMP about an unruly patient who was refusing to listen to staff and attempting to access restricted areas.

In June 2016, Daryl James Jacknife was arrested at the Bonnyville hospital after officers responded to a call at about 9 p.m.

RCMP attempted to get Jacknife under control, but an argument between an officer and the accused ensued, resulting in Jacknife kicking the member in the leg.

On Tuesday, March 20, Jacknife appeared in the Bonnyville Provincial Courthouse via CCTV for sentencing.
After pleading guilty to assaulting a peace officer, and failing to appear in court, Jacknife was sentenced to 15 days in prison.

Although he couldn't remember the incident, he agreed with the facts described by Crown prosecutor Jeff Rudiak.

The 62-year-old Cold Lake First Nations man doesn't have a previous record of violence, Rudiak noted.

As of his sentencing, Jacknife had a remaining four days left to serve.

A DNA sample will be taken for the National Databank because of the severity of the offence.
