A man facing 24 charges relating to weapons, drugs, resisting arrest, and stolen documents, was released from the Edmonton Remand Centre.

On Tuesday, Oct. 23, Brett Marc Ira Gadwa was released from custody on conditions after speaking to bail during his appearance in the Bonnyville Provincial Courthouse.

According to Bonnyville RCMP S/Sgt. Sarah Parke, the charges relate to incidents dating back to late July and August.

“On July 31, members attended to execute an arrest warrant for the individual. They arrived at the residence in Kehewin where they believed he would be, and he was there outside on a quad. The officer yelled at him to stop, but he fled on his quad onto Hwy. 41, and we weren’t able to pursue him,” she explained.

The next day, members revisited the house and Gadwa once again fled.

“We returned again 13 days afterwards on Aug. 12 and found evidence leading us to believe he was in the house. The people inside denied he was in there, but we were able to get a warrant to enter the house and located him hiding under some blankets in his bed,” Parke detailed, adding as a result of being inside of the house, police observed enough evidence to obtain a search warrant for the residence.

Police searched the residence and located drugs, weapons, ammunition, and documents in other people's names including bank paperwork, credit cards, and passports.

Parke said, "That resulted in him being charged with 11 weapons offences, three drug offences, and four offences relating to having possession or tracking in government documents."

Gadwa is facing charges including driving while disqualified, resisting a peace officer, failing to stop a vehicle, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, operating a motor vehicle while disqualified, resisting arrest, six counts of possession of a prohibited weapon, four counts of possession of a weapon, knowingly possessing a prohibited weapon, three counts of making or possessing identification, using or possessing a stolen credit card, and three counts of possession of an illegal substance.

He was granted release on $1,000 cash bail with conditions to keep the peace, be of good behaviour, report to probation, remain in Alberta, abstain from the use, consumption, or possession of any drugs not prescribed, and not to possess any weapons, ammunition, or explosives.

Gadwa pled not guilty and has scheduled trial dates for May 23, May 27, and June 13 of 2019.
