BONNYVILLE – Town of Bonnyville Mayor Elisa Brosseau declared May 26 – 30 as Alberta Rural Health Week in the Town of Bonnyville, commenting on the vital role healthcare providers and volunteers play in taking care of the community.
The proclamation took place on May 13 during the Town of Bonnyville council meeting, and Brosseau spoke to the importance of rural healthcare providers, calling them “invaluable assets.”
“Not only do their skills and expertise enhance the well-being of residents, but these professionals also play vital roles as family members, friends, neighbours, volunteers, teachers, and mentors. Their dedication strengthens the fabric of rural life,” said Brosseau.
According to the Alberta Rural Health Week website, the annual event recognizes the people and organizations that support and strengthen rural healthcare in the province of Alberta.
Their website offers suggestions on how individuals and organizations can show their support, including using the hashtag #ABRuralHealthMatters on social media.
Brosseau included recognition of the community volunteers supporting healthcare.
“Equally important are the community volunteers, often guided by local health professional attraction and retention committees, who work tirelessly to support healthcare services and providers. These volunteers are the heart of their communities, developing innovative and collaborative approaches to attract and retain healthcare professionals, ensuring rural residents have access to care close to home,” said Brosseau.
“I encourage all residents to recognize and show appreciation for the contributions of rural healthcare professionals and volunteers whose dedication enhances the quality of life in rural Alberta,” stated Brosseau’s proclamation document.
