Industrial businesses receive tax break

After catching wind they would be receiving an additional $4.4-million through their annual industrial assessments, the MD of Bonnyville has decided to use the extra funding to give their non-residential properties a bit of a tax break.

In particular, they were focusing on the mill rate for industrial businesses.

Council agreed to start the process of closing the gap between the non-residential and residential mill rates for 2018.

"The MD has an opportunity to be a shining star," said Reeve Greg Sawchuk about reducing the rate.

Most of council was in favour of reducing the mill rate from 15.5 to 15 for 2018, however Sawchuk voted against, wishing to see more of a reduction.
