MD set to host ASP Open House

The future of the lands adjacent to Hwy. 28 and Hwy. 41 will be up for discussion at the Area Structure Plan (ASP) Open House.

The future of the lands adjacent to Hwy. 28 and Hwy. 41 will be up for discussion at the Area Structure Plan (ASP) Open House.

The MD of Bonnyville is inviting residents of the town and MD to their open house at the Bonnyville Seniors Drop-In Centre on Thursday, April 5, where they will map out the future of the lands along two local highways.
"ASPs are a long-forward looking document. They're not carved in stone, but they require a lot of consultation with the public," explained MD Reeve Greg Sawchuk.

The municipality has hired Stantec Consulting Ltd. to assist with the preparation of the ASP. Representatives from the company will be available during the open house to answer questions and review details of the plan.

Stantec has outlined a few directions the MD could take with the one-mile on each side of Hwy. 28 and Hwy. 41. The lands cover Hwy. 28 from the Town of Bonnyville's west boundary to Twp. Rd. 610, and also the town's northeast boundary to the Hamlet of Fort Kent, and Hwy. 41 north of Bonnyville to Hwy. 55 and the boundary of La Corey.

Now that they have a general idea of their options going forward, the MD is ready for the public consultation stage of the process.

"Once you come to something you think will work looking out 25 years, you go ahead and pass it as a resolution," Sawchuk said.

The event is being described as an informal drop-in style open house from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., with a formal presentation on the project kicking off at 6:30.

Sawchuk encourages residents from both the town and MD to attend, because "anytime they can get out there and state their opinion and give input," is important.

"Some of these first meetings, that's when they have a great impact on maybe where the MD and town are going to go," he added.
