Digging their way into trouble
Early Monday morning (Feb. 5) RCMP were dispatched to a suspicious vehicle that was partly in the ditch on Hwy. 660 near Hwy. 882.
“Police arrived on-scene and located two males who were attempting to dig their vehicle back out of the snow,” explained Sgt. Sarah Parke of the Bonnyville RCMP.
Officers later discovered the 36-year-old Edmonton man, and 27-year-old man from Wabamun had lied about their identities, and were arrested for obstruction.
During a search, officers found one of the males was in possession of cocaine.
“There are multiple charges laid against both,” Parke stated, adding they will face charges of possession of cocaine and obstruction.
Local man charged with sexual assault
A 36-year-old MD of Bonnyville resident was charged with sexual interference and sexual assault over the weekend.
“Sexual interference means it involves a child,” said Parke.
The local male's first court appearance is Feb. 6.
Snowbank snoozer ends up in custody
A man found passed out in a snowbank was subsequently charged for possession of methanphetamine.
On Jan. 29, Bonnyville RCMP responded to a call about a man sleeping in a snowbank.
The man was arrested for being intoxicated in public and searched.
This was when police found a small amount of meth among his items.

Propane tanks stolen from local business
RCMP are looking for information about a theft of 10 propane containers from the Wholesale Club in Bonnyville on Jan. 29.
According to police, the tanks are worth about $500, and were stolen directly from the propane locker in front of the store.
Video surveillance shows oce male cutting the lock of the locker before stealing the tanks.
Unfortuantely, the video footage is poor, and police are unable to identify the individual involved.
Anyone with any information is asked to call the local detachment at 780-343-7200.
Still no leads on bouncy house theft
The Bonnyvile Baptist Church is pleading with the public for the return of their eight to 10 missing bouncy houses.
They were reported stolen to RCMP on Jan. 28.
Police are continuing to ask the public for any information on the incident.
“They support the community and provide to the community, typically free of charge. It's very unfortunate those went missing,” Parke expressed.
Fraud investigation concluded
Police have closed a 2016 file on an investigation into income tax-related fraud.
According to police, the individuals involved, who were from in and around the area, were arrested for over $37,000 in fraud.
More stolen vehicles reported
On Jan. 30 a resident reported someone had broken into their truck in the Town of Bonnyville.
Based on damage, police believe someone had tried to start the vehicle, but ultimately the culprits failed and were unable to steal it.
Another Bonnyville resident reported a vehicle theft where their wallet, identification, and other items were inside.
RCMP are reminding residents to always lock their vehicles and never to leave their keys, or any valuables, inside.
Put down the cellphones
February is distracted driving month for the RCMP, and although they focus on the issue 365-days a year, Parke wants to remind drivers the charge comes at a high cost of $287 for a first-time offender.
