NDHS students perform slapstick comedy in classic 'who dun it' play

Earlier this month, École Notre Dame High School hosted a formal dinner party consisting of murder, intrigue and popular characters from the classic Hasbro board game and adapted film, Clue.

BONNYVILLE – Murder, intrigue and a formal dinner party took place on the stage of École Notre Dame High School over a span of two days earlier this month.

The Notre Dame drama class and students who auditioned for the play embraced the slapstick comedy and quirky characters based on the classic Hasbro board game, Clue, during two matinee performances and two evening performances.

The opening production of the play took place on the afternoon of June 7, with the final performance wrapping up on June 8.

Following the first performance open to the public, Grade 11 actor Aletta Dechaine said, “It’s a good way to shake off the rust and clean up our performance for Thursday night's performance.”

Dechaine performed as both the stranded motorist and later entered the stage as a ‘singing telegram girl.’

Students received their scripts in February and had have been rehearsing for countless hours during lunch and after school.

The presentation of Clue is the first time the play has hit the stage in Bonnyville and was made possible through a significant donation from the Bonnyville Fine Arts Society.

The rights to screenplay, scripts, accompanying music, along with additional materials had to be purchased by the school’s drama program. A donation from the local fine arts society helped to acquire the scripts and get permission to bring the play to Bonnyville.

Notre Dame’s drama teacher Kim Barrie noted the materials acquired for the performance will be shared with other local drama programs – so other audiences will get to speculate on who killed the cook.

Barrie also shared extra gratitude to Lara-Rochelle Theriault who was the women-power behind the intricate set design, which provided an immersive backdrop for the classic ‘who dun it’ comedy.
