The Bonnyville Jr. A Pontiacs had a chance to climb into the rarified air of second place in the Alberta Junior Hockey League North Division's standings if they could manage a victory when they travelled to Fort McMurray Wednesday.

But their hopes were dashed quickly as they played one of their worst games in some time.

“We got our asses kicked,” said Pontiacs head coach Chad Mercier.

The Oil Barons outworked and outplayed the Pontiacs, according to Mercier, and came out of it with a well-deserved 4-1 win to show for it.

The Pontiacs will welcome Camrose to town for the final home game of the regular season tonight (Feb. 18) at the R.J. Lalonde Arena. Puck drop is 7 p.m.

They will then travel to Sherwood Park for a Sunday afternoon affair to close out the regular season.

The Pontiacs have clinched third in the north division, and have guaranteed themselves home ice advantage in the first round, but are still awaiting an opponent.

The Pontiacs will either face Sherwood Park or Lloydminster, depending on this weekend's results.
