Pro Rodeo weekend packed with events

The Bonnyville Pro Rodeo weekend will kick off with the annual corporate chili cookoff Friday in the parking lot of Sylvestre Source for Sports between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m.

The Bonnyville Pro Rodeo weekend will kick off with the annual corporate chili cookoff Friday in the parking lot of Sylvestre Source for Sports between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. Live music, face painting and balloons will be available for the kickoff to the Pro Rodeo weekend, which will be followed by a rodeo performance at 6 p.m.

Chili chefs need to have their entry forms in by Wednesday to the Chamber of Commerce. Proceeds will go to Portage College. The street will be blocked off between 50th Ave and the back lane. After a bowl of chili you may want to check out the sidewalk sale by participating businesses on 50th Avenue.

A pancake breakfast will be served at the Rodeo Grounds at 8 a.m. on Saturday, followed by the annual rodeo parade through town. Registration is at 10 a.m. at the Rodeo Grounds. The route will go north on 55th Street, east on 50th Avenue, south on 46th Street, west on 47th Avenue, north on 49th Street, and west on Lakeshore Drive until arriving back at the Rodeo Grounds.

Just prior to the parade at 10:30 a.m. the Great Bonnyville Bed Race will rip through downtown from Brosseau's Department Store to Hamel's Meats on 50th Avenue. Proceeds will go to the Stollery Children's Hospital Foundation. Teams from ATB Financial, ATCO Electric, STARS Air Ambulance, and B & R Eckel's Transport will compete for bed racing supremacy. Also on Saturday the band Sweet Tequila will perform at the Centennial Centre for the rodeo dance following the rodeo. The Sunday rodeo performance will be at 2 p.m. at the Rodeo Grounds.
